Clan hall

A clan hall is where clan members pay homage to their ancestors. The wood plaques with inscriptions are spirit tablets symbolic of ancestors. It is a tradition to conduct two worship rituals every year, one in spring and the other in autumn. On the day of the ritual, clan members will gather at the hall to pay respect and then have a banquet as clan-bonding event.

Bernice’s story:

There are many clan halls in my home village. Two of them correspond to my direct ancestors, one in memory of my greatx20 grandfather and the other in memory of my greatx16 grandfather. The oldest clan hall, in memory of our first ancestor to settle down in this village, has been demolished for good.
